What conferences, classes or seminars will you be attending this year? Are you presenting a workshop? When and where can readers and aspiring authors find you this year? Or, if you’re staying at home to work on that next great story, please share some of your favorite conference/workshop experiences from the past. Delores Fossen: 2010 will be an exciting conference year for me. This month I'm attending the Romantic Times Booklovers convention (April 27-May 1) in Columbus, Ohio, where I'll participate on a panel, The Nuts and Bolts of Writing Series Romance. I'll also be participating in the booksigning. I haven't been to an RT conference in several years, and I'm really looking forward to this one. Then in July I'll be at the RWA national conference in Nashville, TN, where I'll sign books in my new miniseries, The Texas Maternity Hostages. Finally, October 1-3 I'll be attending Moonlight and Magnolia in Atlanta. If you're near any of these locations, please drop by and say hello. Paula Graves: I'm talking about a Moonlight and Magnolias conference in Atlanta several years ago, when I was still a complete rookie at the writing game. The conference itself was lovely, and I had a wonderful time meeting fellow writers and learning many new things about this crazy and challenging career I'd chosen. But what lifts that particular conference above all the rest was a group of U.S. Marines who were sharing the hotel with us that weekend. We ran into them constantly, and they were about as tickled to be sharing a hotel with romance writers as we were thrilled with sharing space with a bunch of good-looking, buff and charming alpha males who delighted in engaging us in conversation in the corridors and elevators. How's another conference ever going to top that? Mallory Kane: On April 10, 2010, at the G. Chastaine Flynt Library in Flowood, Mississippi, I'll be joining 14 other Mississippi authors, including Erica Spindler, Terri Blackstock, Karen Young, Peggy Webb, Robert Dalby, Delores Fossen and more, in a huge, multi-author booksigning and reception to benefit adult literacy in Mississippi. It should be a wonderful time! Find more information on www.mississippiwrites.com. The only other finalized plans I've made for 2010 is to attend Hermit Week in Isle of Palms, South Carolina. It's a full week of writing and being with other authors. I got almost a whole book written during that week last year. I loved it! Julie Miller: I was honored when Romantic Times asked me to be Captain of their Series Romance workshop panels at their conference in Columbus, Ohio April 28-May 2. It turned out to be a lot of work—promoting Series Romance, lining up speakers, writing workshop blurbs, notifying editors and marketing personnel, securing books and prizes to give away to all our attendees—but what an exciting learning experience. And speaking of exciting, I’ve lined up some stellar Series Romance authors, from NYT and USA Today bestsellers to someone so brand new her books haven’t even been released yet! I’ve schedule two workshops, with something for readers and aspiring writers alike, to join me at two RT workshops. The first, The Nuts and Bolts of Writing Series Romance, features Brenda Jackson, Debra Webb, Delores Fossen, Kimberly Lang, Anne Calhoun and Kimberly Kaye Terry, who’ll share how they broke into Series Romance and found a home there, and answer audience questions. The second workshop, Tailoring Your Story to Fit the Right Series Line, features Nina Bruhns, Lisa Childs, Lynn Raye Harris, Donna Hill and Ann Voss Peterson. These authors write for several lines and will share how they found their starring niche in Series Romance and are making a career there, as well as answer audience questions. I hope to see you there! Angi Morgan: In July, I'll be enjoying the RWA national conference as a Golden Heart finalist and First Sale Author. In October, I may be a speaker for the South Carolina Writer's Workshop. I am blogging for them every three weeks about my first book publishing experience: http://scwwblog.blogspot.com/. I just attended the NT Two Step conference who hosted Michael Hauge. Awesome experience. I worked directly with Michael on the characters of my next story and highly recommend taking his workshop. Ann Voss Peterson: It's shaping up to be a busy spring and summer for me! I'll be giving workshops at Wisconsin RWA's Milwaukee area meeting, April 17, speaking on two panels at my first Romantic Times convention (April 28-May 2), and possibly just hanging out at the WisRWA Conference in Milwaukee (May 14-16). June finds me at the Southeast Wisconsin Book Festival (June 19) on a romance panel moderated by the ever-fabulous Barbara Vey, and I'll also be giving a workshop for the Mad Romance Writers in Madison, WI (June 26th). I'll tie up my busy summer of speaking at RWA in Nashville (July 28-31), where I'll be presenting a workshop called "Turn the Page! Writing Techniques Guaranteed to Improve Your Pacing." I hope to see some of you out and about! Kay Thomas: I’m going to RWA in Nashville July 28-August 1. I’m excited about seeing readers and author friends there. Particularly at the huge literary signing on Wednesday evening (7/28), the first night of the conference. On April 17th I’ll be at the Juke Joint Festival in my hometown of Clarksdale, Mississippi signing BULLETPROOF BODYGUARD. I’m very excited about this event because it will be with lots of friends and family that I don’t get to see very often. (This is not your typical book signing venue.) It’s a huge blues festival and you’re all invited! So come on down for the book signing and stay for the barbeque, the blues, and the pig races, too! The Mississippi Delta is amazing in the spring. | |||||||||||||||
