New Releases
Operation: Midnight Rendezvous by Linda Castillo, Harlequin Intrigue, ISBN: 0373229402

Deep-cover operative Mike Madrid tracked Jessica Atwood with ease, but one look at her revealed her innocence. On the run with an orphan in tow, the spitfire called out to Madrid, stirring passions he thought long buried.

But on this terrifying night, the secrets of Lighthouse Point would be exposed. And there were those who wouldn't allow that to happen. Jess needed Mike's protection from a desperate community, but could they reveal the truth about a dead mother without cutting to the heart of the growing attraction between them?

On Fire by Jan Hambright, Harlequin Intrigue, ISBN: 0373229437

Arson investigator Kade Decker had his hands full with four suspicious fires and no leads. Complicating matters was crime-scene psychologist Savannah Dawson's appearance at each investigation--and the red-hot attraction that raged between them.

And when it became clear that the same person responsible for setting the terrifying blazes had begun to target Savannah, honor demanded Kade offer his protection. But as danger around them fueled their desire, a burning question remained: Would the combustible passion between them be extinguished by the madman on their trail?

Look-Alike by Rita Herron, Harlequin Intrigue, Nighthawk Island, ISBN: 0373229399

When Caitlin Collier wakes up in a mental institution with no clue as to how she got there, she escapes, then turns to Sheriff Miles Monahue. He believes she is his missing wife. But soon they discover that Caitlin has been the victim of a Nighthawk Island research experiment involving twin identities, and that her look alike is dead. And Caitlin may be his next victim…
Without a Doubt by Kathleen Long, Harlequin Intrigue, ISBN: 0373229410

The moment she laid eyes on the little girl with the butterfly-shaped birthmark, reporter Sophie Markham swore she was looking at her long-lost niece. And yet this child's parents claimed to have met the birth mother...who had perished in a fire.

Digging into the adoption quickly became dangerous, but her biggest challenge was the child's uncle, and Sophie's ex, Gary Barksdale. Being near him reminded Sophie of the passion that had once driven their careers and their relationship. And working together now felt as natural as it had back then--except this time someone wanted them dead.

A Clandestine Affair by Joanna Wayne, Harlequin Intrigue, Cape Diablo, ISBN: 0373229429

Welcome to the island of Cape Diablo-where paradise and fear become one. Jaci Matlock travels to the isolated island to investigate a mysterious disappearance that hasn't been solved in thirty years, but what she finds is a mad woman, an unfriendly old man, unexplained images of the dead, and a dark, brooding treasure hunter with an agenda of his own.

He couldn’t forget...
And now, the only way to keep Annie safe from the men who were after her--and recover the formula--was to face his greatest fear: Help her regain her memory, including their stormy past. Because one thing would never change...Sean MacNeil would stop at nothing to safeguard the woman he loved.

Question of the Month
Here is the question for the authors for September:
September is the month for Labor Day.
What is your favorite occupation for your hero?
And why does that occupation work so well for you in writing your Intrigues?

B.J. Daniels:

I admit it. I love cowboys. But then I've lived in Montana all but the first few years of my life. And there is nothing sexier than a man on a horse. And out here, there are some adorable cowboys in every age. I once saw one come riding up who looked just like Magnum P.I. would at sixty. You could tell he'd lived an interesting life. He radiated confidence and had this twinkle in his eye. And of course the dimples. Come on, what could be sexier than that?

Jan Hambright:
Definitely Lawmen, and the other careers along those lines.  The hero in my September book, On Fire, is an injured fireman, turned arson investigator.  I tend to like heroes who are in a position of authority.  I think I gravitate toward them because of my life experiences.  I spent ten years as a volunteer EMT, and my husband worked as  volunteer fireman.  We developed a working relationship with LEO (Law enforcement officers) on accident scenes, and I always felt more comfortable when they arrived to take charge.  I developed a great respect for them and the job they do.  Besides, I can't tell you the number of times they'd pass me in oncoming traffic, and give me the slow down signal instead of a ticket.  Yeah, they're heroes.

Mallory Kane:

I love lawmen, especially the enigmatic and inscrutable Feds--FBI, DEA, CIA.  I like to think that I have the best of the best in my Ultimate Agents mini-series. My FBI agents are all about honor and integrity. Their primary objective is to protect the innocent. My hero might be dressed in jeans and a T-shirt or an impeccably tailored suit. Either way he's competent and sexy and protective of the heroine, and he won't stop until the crime is solved and the guilty are brought to justice. My fifth Ultimate Agents book will be out in late 2007. It's called A Father's Sacrifice, and tells the story of Natasha Rudolph, my first female Ultimate Agent.

Julie Miller:
I suppose the answer for me would be a cop since I've had such good success with both the Taylor Clan and The Precinct mini-series that I've written and am currently writing for Intrigue. There's a lot I find appealing about a law enforcement hero--for one, there's the broad-shouldered uniform when they dress up or are on patrol. Then there are the worn jeans that hug well-toned and hard-trained muscles. And, of course, there is the impeccable suit or loosened tie with rolled-up sleeves of a man ready for hard work...

Okay, hormones aside, writing cop heroes really appeals to my sense of character building. A good cop is both an intellectual with an eye for detail, and a man with street smarts who can trust and act on his instincts. Perfect for creating mysteries and solving complex cases like the one in my October Intrigue, Baby Jane Doe, where Detective Eli Masterson gets tapped by KCPD's lady commissioner to solve a murder that has baffled the department and city for years. Match that kind of brainpower with the drive to protect and code of honor that a good cop possesses (even a loner like Eli), and you've got a natural for a hero.
