Prescription: Makeover by
Jessica Andersen,
Harlequin Intrigue, ISBN 9780373692491Ike Rombout had to be in control--of her job, her life and especially her men. And with her intimidating look, including short, dark hair and a preference for tight black clothes, most men stayed away. Except former FBI agent William Caine--he walked where most men wouldn't. While working at Boston General, Ike found herself in the crosshairs of some very powerful men. And when a bullet meant for Ike kills someone she loves, William Caine discovered the perfect solution for a common enemy. A clean-cut military man had the job of transforming a rebel with a cause into his best-kept secret. Primped in flower prints and pastels, no one in the workaday world would believe this soft, innocent woman dreamed of revenge. But when William's caution turned into concern, Ike wondered if he wanted the striking beauty in front of him, or the real woman inside.... |

What do you think about the new Intrigue covers? Tell us how your latest or upcoming cover fits your concept of your book. Delores Fossen: So far, I love the ones I've gotten. The cover of my upcoming May Intrigue, Undercover Daddy, depicts the reunion of an undercover Justice Department agent, Luke Buchanan, and the son that was stolen from him and illegally adopted. I think the cover did a great job of capturing the emotion of that moment. Mallory Kane: I'm loving the new covers. I'm amazed at how perfectly they can depict a background setting with a close-up shot. My cover for my May 07 Intrigue, Juror No. 7, is just about perfect! My hero and heroine are just like I pictured them, and the background is a courthouse. My heroine Lily Raines, who is the unlucky Juror No. 7 that a deadly crime boss has fingered to throw the case against his best hit man, is showing just the right mixture of fear and attraction for Brand Gallagher, an undercover cop with the Gulf Coast mob. For all Lily knows, Brand is out to kill her when she votes guilty and convicts the hit man. Of course he's determined to save her. I think the cover depicts all that. Of course Brand wouldn't have on his badge--but everything else about the cover is so perfect, I'm not complaining! Julie Miller: For the most part, I love the new Intrigue covers! Richer colors, more moody backgrounds--and you can't go wrong with some of the beefier, more photogenically-mature (is that a word?) men they're using in the artwork now. I think the art department is doing a great job capturing the tension, danger, and even some of the action, that are in the pages of an Intrigue. I haven't seen my upcoming cover yet, but my editor loved the mock-up and I loved what she described to me. For Up Against the Wall (the first book in my Precinct: Vice Squad mini-series, starting in August), she said they went with a literal interpretation of the title--my undercover vice cop, Seth Cartwright, throws determined reporter, Rebecca Page, up against the wall to shield her from the fire of her exploding car. I'm thinkin' somebody in my fictional Kansas City world doesn't like nosy reporters asking so many questions <g>. Ann Voss Peterson: I love the Intrigue covers. The art department has done such a wonderful job of combining suspense with romance--or in the case of my current cover, suspense and a really hot man. The cover for my April 2007 release, Special Assignment, perfectly depicts the urgent desperation my hero feels in the story. After Mike Lawson is suspended from the Denver PD, he takes the "special assignment" of protecting computer whiz Cassie Allen. But when his past decisions come back to haunt him, he worries that instead of protecting her he has put her in danger. The scene on the cover is a moment in the story where he believes his past might have cost Cassie her life and he is desperate to save her. And what a chest on that guy! Did you see that chest? Rebecca York: The cover of my June Intrigue, Royal Lockdown, the first book in the Lights Out continuity series, has a stunning picture of my heroine, Ariana of Beau Pays. She's blond, beautiful and regal--everything I imagined. Shane Peters, the security expert who finds himself in a hostage situation and then on the run with her highness, is in back of her. They're both standing tall and straight, staring into the distance, conveying the iron will and devotion to duty that both of them possess. His hand is protectively on her shoulder. It's an intimate gesture. But there's really no hint of the sexual awareness simmering below the surface of their formal relationship--or the wild, unforgetable passion that neither one of them can fight, once they're alone. You'll have to read the book to find out how these two deal with their impossible situation--in and out of each others arms. |
